Terminal mode operation

Venta4Net Plus allows you to install the client end of the program both on users’ computers and a terminal server that users’ workstations connect to (for instance, diskless workstations known as “thin clients”). The software supports mixed combinations of “regular”, “terminal” and email clients comprised of as many of them as is allowed by the purchased license(s).

Make no mistake and don’t confuse a terminal server and a Venta4Net Plus server. Although the server end of Venta4Net Plus can be installed on the same terminal server as terminal clients, we recommend installing it on a separate computer. If your internal modem freezes, you’ll need to reboot the system to restore its normal operation, which may entail all kinds of problems, since you will need to warn all the users (even those who may be connected to the server remotely) about an imminent server restart. Therefore, restarting the terminal server is highly undesirable due to the number of difficulties it usually causes.

Note. Both client and server ends of Venta4Net Plus can be launched at the same time under a single account for testing purposes. Once a task has been sent to the VENTAFAX printer, the program will open a transmission window of the last launched application.

Working with the program (both server and client ends) installed on a terminal server is no different from working with its copy installed on a separate computer.

Let’s take a look at some peculiarities of the installation process and the first launch of the client end of the program on a terminal server.

Installation

The client end is installed by the server administrator once for all users of the server.

First launch under a user’s account

When the program is launched for the first time, it configures the settings for this user. For example, it creates a configuration file, incoming and outgoing folders, service folders and other objects in the local data folder of this user. This helps keep settings user-specific and restrict other users’ access to messages.

Server end of the program

The server end of Venta4Net Plus can be launched under one account only. An attempt to launch another instance of the program under another account will bring up a notification window letting you know that the program has already been launched under a different account.
